Eviction Aid Expands 🏠

Rhode Island just received $2.5 million from the Eviction Protection Grant Program to help renters who might lose their homes. This money goes to Rhode Island Legal Services (RILS) and its partners so they can offer free legal help to people facing eviction. Senator Jack Reed, who helped launch this program, says this funding will keep families safe and lower the chances of homelessness. By giving legal advice and support, RILS aims to help renters understand their rights and avoid unfair evictions. People who need assistance can call 1-800-662-5034 or (401) 274-2652, or visit rifairhousing.org. This program is designed to keep neighborhoods stable while helping landlords and renters work together for better solutions.

New PC Nursing Center 🩺

Providence College opened a large new building called the Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences, where students train in realistic labs that look like actual hospitals. They can practice patient care with high-tech mannequins and team up with theater students who act out emergencies for hands-on learning. The five-story, $90 million building is the college’s biggest academic space and is meant to boost Rhode Island’s health workforce. Nursing students will connect with local hospitals, get real-world job experience, and maybe stay in the state to work after graduation. PC leaders hope the center helps fill gaps in health care and gives students modern skills to serve their communities.

Macy’s Stays Put 🛍️

Macy’s will not close its stores at Providence Place, Warwick Mall, or Emerald Square Mall in 2025, even though the company is shutting down dozens of locations across the country. People worried about the Providence Place location when the mall went into receivership in late 2024, but store officials say Macy’s will remain open “for the immediate future.” At Warwick Mall, the store continues to draw steady crowds, and the Emerald Square Mall location also plans to stay. While Macy’s is working on a nationwide plan called “Bold New Chapter” to improve its business, local shoppers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing these three Macy’s stores will keep serving their communities.

Historic Brick Home 🏛️

This grand brick building on Hope and Angell Streets was designed for the Lippitt Family. It offers three separate units, each with its own laundry and updated heating and cooling. The first-floor townhouse has five bedrooms, the second-floor flat has two bedrooms, and the top-floor flat has three bedrooms plus a study. There’s also a private office, a parking area with space for six cars, and lots of classic architectural details. Located in College Hill, it’s close to schools, shops, restaurants, and only minutes from downtown and the train station. For images click here.
