This Weekend's Events & Providence's Best Condo?
+ Halloween-themed Wordle & a cafe review
Good morning, Providence. This is PVD Current, the newsletter that’s as great as the houses that give out king-sized candy bars. 🍫

This weekend’s events ❗️
The East Side Tunnel reopened 🚌
Let’s get to it.

Coastal Cafe Chronicles
Where I Tried: Espresso by Strive (361 Admiral St, Providence, RI 02908)
What I ordered: Small iced mocha with almond milk + blueberry crumb muffin
What it cost: $10.04
I’d been driving by this spot seeing work being done for a bit - looking forward to trying it out when it opened. Espresso officially opened on October 10th and I went last week. Parking can be tough so I’d suggest just parking at the Walgreens across the street because they have a big lot. I went in not knowing much, and my order turned out great! They asked if I wanted my muffin heated up - which I said yes to, and definitely recommend. The muffin was one of the best I’ve had from a cafe in Providence. My mocha was also great. I’ll be adding Espresso to my regular rotation and recommend you check it out.

🚍 East Side Transit Tunnel Reopens After Major Overhaul
Source: WJAR
After six months of construction, RIPTA has reopened the historic East Side Transit Tunnel, a key route for buses traveling over College Hill. Originally built over 100 years ago to help trolleys avoid the steep incline, the tunnel now handles 250 bus trips daily and is essential during winter when buses can’t easily manage the hill. The $25 million project, which began in March, included fresh pavement and upgraded drainage to keep transit flowing smoothly year-round.
💡 $24 Million in Energy Aid Announced to Help RI Families Stay Warm This Winter
Source: Jack Reed
Senator Jack Reed has announced $24 million in federal funding for Rhode Island through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help low-income families and seniors cover heating costs this winter. Released as part of a larger $3.71 billion initiative by the Biden-Harris Administration, this funding aims to ensure that Rhode Islanders don’t have to choose between essentials like medication and heating. LIHEAP supports eligible residents using natural gas, propane, electricity, and heating oil, with applications open now through spring 2025 (or until funds are used). For details, Rhode Islanders can visit the Rhode Island Department of Human Services website or contact a local Community Action Agency.
The Life Five Floors Below The Top 🏡
Source: Pam Hogan Homes LLC
I’ve always thought living all-the-way-up with a sick view would be awesome, so this condo on the 26th floor of The Residences stuck out. The Residence building has the most floors in Providence, 31, and this is only 5 below. It has amazing views of the Statehouse, Waterplace Park, and College Hill from every window—and there are two balconies to take it all in. The place has a modern kitchen with high-end appliances, and the primary suite is pretty luxurious with its own ensuite and custom finishes. Plus, you get two parking spots and storage, and there’s a 24-hour concierge and gym access at the Omni. If you’re curious to see all the photos of this spot and it’s views, click here.
