🎨 New Murals & Art Installations Planned

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, The Avenue Concept, and city officials announced "The Ripples Project," a new public art initiative that will bring large-scale murals and creatively designed utility boxes to the city. The project aims to beautify Providence and support local artists with paid opportunities. It will commission 3,600 square feet of murals and 50 utility box designs, engaging both professional and youth artists. This initiative aligns with Providence’s commitment to enhancing the city's creative identity and supporting the arts economy.

💰 $13M Awarded to Make RI Homes Lead-Safe for Families

Ahead of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 20-26), Rhode Island leaders announced $13 million in federal funding for lead paint abatement in Providence and Woonsocket through HUD’s Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Program. Homeowners, renters, and landlords can apply for assistance to remove lead hazards from homes, especially benefiting low-income families. The funds aim to make residences safer for children, who are at high risk of lead poisoning. Nearly 300,000 housing units in Rhode Island have lead hazards, with 1,300 children poisoned each year. The program will cover the high costs of lead removal, raising awareness and improving public health. Providence residents can apply here.
