🏢 New Apartments Coming to Union Station
Source: Marc N. Belanger
The owner of 36 Exchange Terrace (Union Station) in Providence plans to add 16 apartments in 12,000 square feet of former office space above the Union Station Brewery. The project is set to cost about $5.3 million and will be led by Edmund Restivo Jr., who also manages CRISP Restaurant Group. The apartments will occupy the top two floors of the historic building, part of the former Union Station complex. This development aims to increase downtown housing and complement the upcoming Track 15 Food Hall in the adjacent building.
🏫 Update on Providence Council and PPSD Negotiations
Source: Providence Preservation Society
The City Council has proposed an additional $1.5 million for the school district, aiming to protect sports programs and bus passes. This offer builds on Mayor Brett Smiley’s previous conditional $1 million commitment which arose earlier this month when PPSD Superintendent, Javier Montañez, said PPSD needed $10.9 million to account for budget gaps. The City Council President Rachel Miller highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing the needs of students as discussions with school officials continue.
🍽️ Newport’s 18th Annual Restaurant Week
Source: Discover Newport
Although this isn’t taking place in Providence, I know lots of readers enjoy trying local restaurants so I thought I’d include it. Newport's 18th annual Restaurant Week starts this Friday, November 1. It runs for 10 days with 65 participating restaurants, including 10 new ones across Newport and Bristol counties. Diners can enjoy lunch and dinner menus ranging from $20 to $60, featuring seasonal and locally sourced dishes. If you want to see a list of restaurants participating or learn more you can click here.
