Downtown's Incoming Food Hall & New Nonviolence Funding

"One Providence Place: A Mall Musical" Debuts at AS220 🎶 

Inspired by the true story of a secret apartment discovered in the Providence Place mall in 2007, local improv group The Harpies transformed the tale into "One Providence Place: A Mall Musical." Written with the help of a grant, the musical explores themes of personal and historical change, blending multiple musical genres. The production features characters grappling with the aftermath of 9/11, set to country ballads, upbeat dance numbers, and more. The show runs through September 29 at AS220, with tickets selling fast. You can purchase tickets here.

New Funding for Nonviolence Programs

Mayor Brett Smiley has announced a $237,500 funding opportunity for non-profits focused on nonviolence strategies in schools and communities. The City is looking for proposals that help prevent conflict and support people at risk of being involved in violence. Mayor Smiley emphasized the city's commitment to safer neighborhoods through initiatives like behavioral health support, conflict resolution training, and community policing. Eligible programs should focus on teaching conflict resolution, de-escalation, and providing support to those already engaged in violence. The deadline for proposals is October 21, and the winners will be announced on November 4, 2024. Read more here.

🥘 Track 15 Food Hall to Open in February 2025

Providence’s long-anticipated food hall, Track 15, is set to open in February 2025 at the historic Union Station building. The final two vendors, Little Chaska and Tolia, join a diverse lineup that includes Dune Brothers, Dolores, There There, Giusto PVD, and Mother Pizzeria PVD. Offering a wide range of cuisines from burgers and seafood to Mexican, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Italian, Track 15 will showcase local culinary talent. The $25 million, 18,000 square foot redevelopment will feature a central bar, seating for 600, and a 10,000 square foot plaza for events

💡 $20M in Grants to Boost RI Life Sciences

The Rhode Island Life Science Hub Board has approved $20 million in grants to drive innovation, attract businesses, and support startups in the state's life sciences sector. The funding will be distributed through three programs: Organization Programming Grants ($2.5M), Business Attraction Grants ($10M), and Early-Stage Company Matching Grants ($7.5M). These initiatives aim to foster scientific advancements, economic growth, and job creation in Rhode Island.
