Coastal Cafe Chronicles

Where I Tried: Madrid European Bakery (199 Wayland Ave, Providence, RI 02906)

What I ordered: Small iced mocha with almond milk + chocolate croissant

What it cost: $11.45

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ + 1/2

This is the order I always get when doing these reviews. I like to keep it consistent to keep the reviews fair. Iced mocha + chocolate croissant = go-to order.

I’ll start by saying out of all the chocolate croissants I have tried so far for these reviews, Madrid definitely has the best one. As you can tell from the melted chocolate chips in the picture, it comes warm and has just the right amount of chocolate that it isn’t too sweet you need to save half for later. The mocha was a bit milkier than I normally like at first, but it was pretty good once I mixed it all together. Parking on Wayland is annoying so I’d recommend going early in the morning or parking and walking over. There’s a lot of indoor and outdoor seating and a wide variety of other pastries. This is the highest rating so far.

Sunken Crane to be Removed & Transformed Into Art 🏗️

If you live in Providence or drive through, chances are you’ve seen this sunken crane in the water off of Allens Ave. Since the crane and the barge it sat on sunk in 2017, the goal has been to remove it. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has just awarded the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) with over $1.5 million to pull the crane and barge from the river. Once the crane is removed, the goal is to get it over to the Steel Yard, an art center in Providence, to turn it into public art and amenities. As of now, no timeline has been given for the project.
